Priyanka Choudhari – Founder of the Open Library Movement & The Library Girl of India
Priyanka Choudhari is a contemporary Indian social reformer, writer, and reading-rights activist dedicated to making knowledge accessible to all. She is widely known as The Library Girl of India for her inspiring work in reviving public reading culture and encouraging communities to reconnect with the habit of meaningful reading. As the founder of the Open Library Movement, she promotes 24×7 open, free, and registration-free libraries built on trust, equality, and collective responsibility. Her mission is rooted in the belief that knowledge should never be locked behind money, systems, or privilege, and that books must remain available to every individual regardless of background. With an academic foundation in Political Science and History, her democratic and socially conscious vision connects literature, history, and public awareness to empower youth and marginalized communities. She is also the author of “Azadi: Untold Story of Women Freedom Fighters,” a work that restores dignity to forgotten women of India’s freedom struggle and challenges incomplete historical narratives. Beyond writing, she actively leads book donation drives, reading awareness campaigns, and open knowledge discussions that have reignited reading habits across Maharashtra. She strongly advocates libraries as living democratic spaces and inspires young minds through lectures, public engagement, and social initiatives rooted in justice, equality, and constitutional values. Representing a rare blend of scholarship, activism, and grassroots leadership, she continues to build a vision of a nationwide network of open libraries where learning remains free, inclusive, and socially transformative—reminding society that the most powerful revolution still begins with a single book.
